"We're going to the field to play, Wheelie," Patch called. "Wanna come play soccer?"
"Soccer?" Wheelie asked nervously. The light pink redhead pony had spina bifida and could no longer walk, so she was wheelchair bound. She liked racecars, though, and had not given up hope that she would one day be well enough to drive one.
"Yeah," Patch called. She bounced the ball on her knee, showing off. "It's a lot of fun." She passed the ball to Wheelie, and accidentally knocked it into the wheel on her wheelchair.
Wheelie picked the ball up and handed it back to you. "Um, I don't exactly think I could play soccer. Don't you have to kick the ball with your hooves?" She pointed to her legs.
Patch ran out onto the field, and stopped. "Oh, gee, I didn't think about that. Would you like to be our cheerleader?"
Wheelie forced a grin. "Uh, great, I guess I could be." The pale pink pony was quite athletic, and felt horrible at being left out. She watched as each pony kicked the ball around.
"Yay, Patch, you go girl. Whoo hoo, Clover." Her cheers were quite halfhearted.
Patch and Starlight ran over. "Are you sure you like being a cheerleader?" asked Patch, concerned.
"It's okay," Wheelie sighed, head drooping.
"Maybe we need to find a game that Wheelie can play, too!" Starlight exclaimed. "You always tell us how much you like sports, Wheelie. What games do you like to play?"
Wheelie's freckled face lit up. "I absolutely love basketball! I can play it from my wheelchair!"
"Basketball?" Clover asked nervously. "Really?"
"Yeah," explained Wheelie. "I can dribble and shoot, and I don't need my legs at all for it!"
"Gee," Clover whispered. "I've never played basketball before!"
Starlight smiled and grabbed her arm. "Then it's time to learn!"

The ponies lined up on the court, dressed for the game. Wheelie snapped a headband on her head and dribbled the ball. "Get ready, Patch!"
Patch leaped for the redheaded pony's throw and dribbled it down the court before tossing it back to Wheeliel. "Show us how it's done, girl!" she called.
Wheelie's bright green eyes lit up. Dribbling like mad, she shot down the court and had made a slam dunk before Melody knew what hit her. "I can't believe it!" Melody gasped.
"Come on, Clover!" Wheelie tossed the ball to Clover. The purple pony gulped and faced Starlight, who was heading right toward her. She klutzily dropped the ball, which Starlight stole from her.
"Don't worry," Wheelie comforted, wheeling over. "I wasn't too good either when I started the game. But practice made me so much better. Now look at me go!" She tossed it to Patch, and the game was on.

After a day of playing, the friends met up at the ice cream shop for a round of sundaes. Starlight couldn't stop telling her mother how good Wheelie was at free throws!
"That's amazing, dear!" Starlight's mom said, happily. "Wheelie, have a sundae on the house. It sounds like you're really good!"
"No, ma'am, I just practice," admitted Wheelie.
"What other games do you play?" Patch asked.
"Oh, Ping Pong, Croquet, Racing, you name it! Just because I'm in a chair doesn't mean I can't enjoy the same activities as you! Sometimes, when I'm wearing my sparkly blue braces after therapy, I can try to practice hopscotch."
"Cool," Clover gasped.
"Wanna play tomorrow?" Melody asked excitedly.
Wheelie yawned. "Not now. Even I feel a little tired!"
"Wheelie, you're the best athlete I know," Patch said proudly.
"Well, you play a good game," Wheelie replied.
"We all do," said Starlight. "We can play the same game."
