PART 1
Note-the casings and braces on Princess Snowflake's legs help her walk, as she has spina bifida.
Princess Snowflake dashed out of the castle. It was a crisp, cool morning, just perfect to go exploring. The whole land was frosted, and it glittered like a beautiful frosted bowl of cereal. All of a sudden, the princess heard a voice calling her. It was her daughter, Applejack.
“Mama, I keep hearing voices coming from the woods!”
“Well, dear, I’m heading there right now. What kind of noises?”
“Kind of like distresses shrieking.” At this point, Applejack hugged her mother. “Oh Mom, do be careful!”
“I will,” promised Princess Snowflake, hugging her back. She turned, waved, and walked off toward the direction of the forest to investigate.

“Who’s there?” Princess Snowflake called. She thought she heard grunting, and ran toward the center of the forest before she knew what she was doing.
The cool air pricked her skin, and she shook out her mane as she ran out to find the source of the disruption, her brace casings clicking on the rocks. Her hoofprints trailed behind her, and she leaped over a tangle of vines.
“Help!” The cry was louder now, and it was tinged with the soprano of youth. A young pony in this forest? Princess Snowflake skidded into the clearing. The forest was dark, but she could make out a blue pony struggling in the vines, her rainbow hair flying every which way. She could barely make out a horn on the young pony.
“I’ll save you!” Princess Snowflake called, leaping into the fray. Instantly, vines wrapped around her braces, forcing their way into the casing. She groaned.
“Those are no ordinary vines!” The young unicorn grunted. “They’re super sticky, and they’re alive!”
“All vines are alive!” Princess Snowflake rebutted. “Eww!” A vine slapped her cheek.
“In more ways than one!” called the young unicorn, forcing her horn between the vines. She melted a few, and they fell away, revealing a pair of rainbow-striped wings. Princess Snowflake gasped.
“You have wings! You’re a unicorn with wings!”
“Yeah, I know! We’ve got to get free!”
“But there shouldn’t be any of you!”
“I’m not from around here! Watch out!” Princess Snowflake ducked just as a vine swiped over her head. Winged unicorns, sticky living vines? What could they all mean?
