The Jack Banny Show was on radio for many years in the 1930's and 1940's on NBC and then in 1948 CBS chairman and founder William S. Paley stole Benny along with Red Skelton , Burns and Allen and others away from David Sarnoff's NBC, and that movie made CBS tops in radio, just like it would on TV for years with Lucy, Red Skelton, Jackie Gleason, Ed Sullivan, Arthur Godfrey, Garry Moore,Andy Griffith, thingy Van d**e and Carol Burnett.
Jack Benny's TV show ran on CBS from 1950-1964, the year CBS TV exec Jim Aubrey told him "You'r finished", just like he did to Garry Moore. In fall 1964, Benny came back home to NBC, where he was topped in the ratings by Gomer Pyle,USMC on CBS (I don't know what ABC had then). After Benny's TV show ent off in 1965 he later did Specials on NBC, guested on other show slike The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Lucille Ball's TV shows. He died the day after Christmas in 1974 at 80,and NBC aired his last special ,a Dean Martin roast honoring him that aired postmously in early 1975.
CBN cable (now ABC Family ) has aired Jack Benny Show reruns in the 1980's and in the 1990's WWOR-NYC aired reruns on it's satellite feed as one of the repalcements for Aresnio Hall to due FCC rules on syndicated exclusivity. This show could air on a PBS station in your area in reruns so watch for it. I don't know if it is on VHS and DVD ,but it could be.
Benny was always funny. I love dit when he palyed the viloin.
